Michael Jackson

… he almost had it all

By Jodi Klum : June 27, 2009

Michael JacksonMichael Jackson was a phenomenon in the music world. No doubt about it. His talent brought him fame from an early age, incredible riches, and adulation from millions of fans.

But between his early years of fame in The Jackson Five, and his death at the age of 50 on June 25, 2009, many things went wrong.

He revealed he had been incessantly beaten and abused by his father while being raised a Jehovah's Witness by his mother. He had 13 plastic surgery operations that many said turned him into a freak show. And despite earning millions upon millions of dollars in his lifetime, he ran into huge financial problems in the last few years of his life and died owing around $500 million.

He had problems in marriage, problems from the public when he dangled his baby Prince Michael II over a balcony, and accusations of child molestation and unhealthy dealings with children dogged him for years. But there is much we can learn from Michael Jackson's life and death.

We can learn that a bad childhood doesn't necessarily mean you have to curl up and feel sorry for yourself forever.

We can learn that attempts to change your appearance drastically can go wrong.

We can learn that fame doesn't necessarily bring happiness.

We can learn that when you are famous you are under incredible scrutiny, so when you do bizarre things the public may judge you harshly.

We can learn that massive wealth can disappear if you are not wise with your money.

And we can learn that true friends will stick by you no matter what. Uri Geller, Brooke Shields, Elizabeth Taylor, and other close friends came out quickly to praise him when news of his death shot around the world.

But I believe the most important lesson anyone can learn from Michael Jackson's shockingly sudden death is that we can never know when death will come knocking on our door.

As such, it is obviously vital that we are ready to meet the Lord when death comes. To put this decision off is sheer arrogance.

God has told us in His Word, the Bible, how to be ready, and how to be sure we will go to Heaven when we die.

And that has to be the most important decision any of us can make in life. Without assurance of eternal life, even if we are Michael Jackson we will never have it all.
