Why gays should not serve in the military

Jodi Klum : April 24, 2010

Homosexual groups last month attacked a statement by 1164 retired generals and admirals who support a 1993 federal law that says it is illegal for homosexuals or bisexuals to serve in the U.S. military.

This law is different from the “don't ask, don't tell” 1993 directive in the Defense Department regulations that say, “Commanders or appointed inquiry officials shall not ask, and members shall not be required to reveal, whether a member is a heterosexual, a homosexual, or a bisexual.”

The 1993 federal law (10 USC 654) prevents homosexuals and bisexuals from serving in the U.S. military, stating that “The presence in the armed forces of persons who demonstrate a propensity or intent to engage in homosexual acts would create an unacceptable risk to the high standards of morale, good order and discipline, and unit cohesion that are the essence of military capability.”

But the real reason homosexual men should not serve in the military is that their HIV rate is 44 times that of other men, according to the Centers for Disease Control. Also, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration will not let gays donate blood, because they are “at increased risk for HIV, hepatitis B and certain other infections that can be transmitted by transfusion.”

If gays are responsible citizens, they should disqualify themselves from serving in the military, where injuries and transfusions are part of this hazardous occupation during war.

Men who have sex with men are in the only risk group in the U.S. in which new HIV infections are increasing.

Hey guys, it has nothing to do with homophobia, and everything to do with minimizing the spread of infections.
