Body piercing comments (2006)A lot of teens have written to us about our article on body piercing — some for, some against. For four years we let our readers have their say until many of them starting spamming us. We were happy to publish any reasonable comments for or against our anti-piercing article, which is more than many of the websites promoting bodypiercing do. But we can't spend day and night sifting through spam, so sorry guys, we have dropped our forum. Here are some comments from 2006“in my neibhorhood piercings are called 'skats'. moms and dads are more likly to say yes you can get a skat than if you ask them if you can get a peircing. 'hey mom, can i become a skatter?' 'sure, but don't hurt yourself.'.” — Luke da Duke [Editor's response: They probably thought you said you were going skating.] “Theres room in this world for differant opinions. Wouldnt it be a boring world if eveytone looked th dsame.” — Audra “I would just like to say that Jesus had peircings. In his hands and his feet. That is what saved us. Don't judge people it is just another way of self _expression. What is next don't listen to music because Jesus didn't make it. I don't understand why the negativity towards all of the tattoos and piercings it is an artform that should be highly respected. God put people on this earth with that kind of talent and I think that Jesus loves everyone equaly no matter what. I thank you for your time.” — Anna “ive just read all the coments from 2005, and i must say that theres an obvious lack of humor from the piercers .. apart from Kazz and Frizzled Ned. does this mean that humorless people are most likely to get peircings? or that when you get lots of skats you lose your sense of humor?” — Bodene “okay to whom it may concern, I have had my tongue pierced for over five years and before you get a piercing you need to make sure it is a clean needle. Comes right out of a sterile bag like the ones in a hospital. Do you think any piercing place is willing to lose their business for a dirty needle? I have no symptoms or problems. And biologically your body will heal from holes in the mouth or ears, or belly button.” — Hickeyjck2 “I have had my tongue pierced and am planning on piercing more areas of my body. i do not see the problem with piercings as they are done to ur own body. it is up to the individual what they chose to decorate their bodies with.” — Palmers “I read your article about piercings and would like to say that being a semi-christian, I find there to be no reason why teens shouldn't be allowed to get piercings, I have my nipples pierced and my ears gauged to 8's in 2 holes in each ear, and am getting my lip pierced. If people are allergic to nickel, then they would know way before they get pierced, I've known I'm allergic since 1st grade, so I just had to ask for Titanium Steel in my nipples.” — Travis “You are right on the job part. Now because jobs are trying to earn money, not lose it. so having a young man sitting at a cash register with his lip pierced, tongue pierced and three or four tattoos on his neck with his hair spiked might just scare some people away. Especially if they are from the older generation where body piercing were never accepted..or even heard of. And as for tattoos were considered a “dare” back in the 70's and before.Even the 80's it was considered, “sluttish” “dirty” or plain “Bad”. It's okay to be expressive, just their is a time and a place for everything.” — Hickeyjck2 “I don't really have a strong opinion against piercings, tho' I personally wouldn't have more than one hole in each ear. But I did want to tell you I loved your cool New Words page. I had heard some of those words but didn't know what theymeant. I particularly likes “cat typing” and I know someone with a “type T personality”, but didn't know it had a name. Thank you so much.” — Dinah [Editor's response: You're welcome. A lot of people have said they liked those words. The page is at cool words.] “I'm a Christian, I go to church 4 to 5 times a week. I'm very involved in the church and spend as much time as I can there. I have 9 piercing. 5 in one ear, 3 in the other, a nose ring, and belly ring. Most of mine are not professional. I've never had a problems with them. I don't pierce my body because I think it is cool or to fit in with the 'cool crowd', I pierce it because I i like the way it looks. My body is my temple, and piercing it is better than what could be doing to it. I know there are risk, but so is stepping out side of my house. What life without risk?” — Pierre's girl “Why are all the pictures in your article of big ugly jewellery on terrifying bald ugly people? you're not really giving the beautiful- pierced a look-in.” — Sophie [Editor's response: They were all we could find that were free from copyright restrictions. If you have some photos of beautiful pierced people we would be more than happy to use them, provided they are not lifted form somewhere without permission and are not infringing someone else's copyright.] “in my opinion getting one or two peircing on the lower non cartilige part of your ear is harmless and can add a wide array of fun ornaments to your wardrobe, if you get it peirced at a place that takes the proper conditions. I do not now much about peircing other places except that it hurts much more, takes signifgantly longer to heal and is more susceptible to infection.” — laura age 15 “Hi, I'm a 15 year old Christina, and I go to a Christian school too. I think some body piercings can be great. I only have my ear lobes pierced once, but am planning to get triple pierced, and a left cartlidge. Maybe double right too. If I had a flat tummy, I would get my belly button pierced. I think lip, tongue, nipple and genital piercings are gross, as they can cause your body harm. Nose piercings are ok, but they have to be on the right person, as do eyebrow piercings. Guys only suit cartlidge and eyebrows. But it doesn't matter what people look like or what you think of them because of their piercings. The only thing that matters is their relationship with God and what's in there heart.” — Ellie. “I really dont see any thing wrong with piecing at all i dont understand why school systems make you take peircing out if they know you have them and dont even see them at least thats whut my school does it sux!because me having a peircing isn't herting them but oh well i think peircings are just fine!*!*!” — sarah “I am an 18 yr. old Christian girl from MO with two nose rings and and a lip ring. I also have a tattoo of the word 'Faith' on my ankle. I have never had any problems with my piercings or tattoos. I also know my piercer well enough to trust in him. I know he is a professional working at a professional shop. I watch him open the new needle from the bag. PLEASE DO NOT GET A PIERCING FROM SOMEONE YOU DO NOT KNOW. MAKE SURE YOU KNOW, BY WATCHING, THAT THE NEEDLE AND RING ARE NEW AND DISINFECTED BEFORE THE PIERCE! Piercing is a way of self _expression for me. ” — Rachael “I really like percings in girls ear lobes if they have the right lobes. long dangly earrings can look very attractife on girls. so can a nice belly-buton ornement if you are not fat. but mostly i think percings in eyebrowse and noses and stuff are over the top and make more kids lok rediculous than attractife.” — Lukas “People have body piercings for different reasons and i think if your going to have a piercing you need to research it, don't be pressured by anyone else to get it but genuinely want it because it's someting you want, not just for now but also to think long term.” — Neish “I'm a christian that's rooted in the Heavenly Father/Jesus faithfully. From reading alot of the comments on body piercing, I realize that alot of you have no problem with body piercing. So that let's me know alot you aren't reading your bibles and living by God's holy word. Why would you all do something that he say not to do, to God that's being rebellious or disobedient to his word. God said live by his word. Body piercing, tattoos, nipple rings, multiple earrings, nose rings, eyebrow rings, belly rings, tongue studs, etc, these are paganism or idolatry. We are not to follow examples of paganism.” — Sunshine “that article is rediculous! I'm 15 and I have 15 piercings and I have never ever ever had any problems with any of my piercings. You shouldn't discourage to people to decorate their body just because of they're faith!” — Annabel “i am 16 and i am a christian with 7 ear piercings and an eye brow ring-and im definatly not going stop there. i dont think there is ANYTHING wrong with them...they are a representation of freedom, they dont have any health risks unless the person who does them is in-expirienced and dont follow the proper health procedures such as sterilisation.” — nai “I just got my ear pierced and a lot of people have problems with it at my church. My pastor doesn’t look at me different but he say that I need think about what other things…and what I think is that people need to stop worrying about the changing people and get them save. We are not the Holy Spirit…let him do his job. And people are call by God to do different things to…be lead by God always….” — Edwin “I go to a Christian school and when we have a chapel speaker (mostly they are teens and young adults) with a piercing, it kind of makes everyone a lot more interested in what they have to say. If you can relate to people who would not normally want to hear what a goody-goody Christian has to say, then what's the problem? I think having a piercing and being totally grounded in your faith and spiritual walk is also beneficial to your testimony and the range of people you are able to minister to. ” — Blair “I am neither a Christian, nor a teen. I am an HR manager for a corporate consulting firm. … Messages like the ones you send out are ill informed. …I have hired pierced people. We don’t flaunt it, and facial piercings are not a good idea in corporate environments, food preparation, health industry etc ” — James “AS a male i can think of nothing more unattractive than a tattoo on a female, to me the most beautiful lady is one with out tattoos or piercings.” — Ironbird “im 13.i myself have four peircings already.2 in each ear.and i wil soon have 5 either in my cartlidge or my belly-button.but i must say that u're website really does offend me. … you people are supposed to not judge any-one.and it seems to me like hats what you were doing when you put those pictureson there. … yes they're alot of health risks and they're are alot of expences and some kids do do it for peer preasure.but in a different light everytime you get in a car u're putting yourself out there to be killed.” — Jessica “its amazing to me wen you see girls with alot of tatoos and piercings walking around. they think they look like queen cleopatra, but all of us looking at them wouldd prefer to look at a horsebutt.” — Draco “I am a teenage girl and am not a Christian. … Although your article makes some excellent points about the dangers of body piercings, i think you present the information in a slightly biased way. … I understand that the website makes efforts to ward Christian teenagers away from things like alcohal, smoking and drugs. I think that's an excellent sevice to provide, but its unrealistic to believe that every teen will abstain from it, as well as other things. … I personally have a few piercings, and have had a bad infection in one of them. I still plan to get a few more done,” — Morgan “i use to like peircings till the rust set in. now im like an old car-wreck. my frends have peiricings too. we all sit around like old car-wrecks.” — Dodger “I am Christian. I try to serve God to the best of my ability and I have my nose pierced. People might judge me by my appearance but God doesn't care what's on the outside, He cares about what's in the heart. And I think that's all that matters.” — yoanna “I got terrible keloid scars from my piercings. I got terrible infection and skin irritations. No one else in these comments seems to have mentioned keloids, but they are awful. I don't recommend peircings to anyone anymore.” — Gemma [Editor's response: Keloid scars are like bumpy blisters of scar tissue that form in or around piercings. They may become red, itchy, and inflamed, and can change size over time. Keloids are most common in ear and nostril piercings, but may occur in other types of piercings.] “I am 18 years old, non-religious. I have 2 piercings in each lobe, 1 in my lip, and one in my tongue. I really like having them. I like your article because it is persuasive against piercings, without claiming all sorts of lies. Though I do think most piercings are beautiful, too many can really be too much. Piercings can get infected, any, especially if you don’t keep them clean! You can get blood poisoning and all sorts of problems such as keloids, bruises, and upset family members.” — Bree “I think your views are ridiculous! I am a Christian young girl and am hoping to get my belly button pierced. I Dont believe that getting a belly button ring will take others focus off God, and I think it is very judgemental to label some one a heathen, or unsaved simply because they have a belly piercing. What makes a Christian without earrings any better or less sinful than one with earings or one with earings than one with a belly button ring? ” — girl who wants a belly button ring. [Editor's response: Readers should note that our article does not say anyone with a belly piercing is a heathen or is unsaved. See also our article on how to get saved and born again. It says nothing about piercings. Nor did we say a Christian without earrings is better or less sinful than one with earrings or other piercings.] “I thnik sum piercings lookl alright and other don't. but I guess your article isbetter than some i have read agianst percings becuz atleast you quote the americal dental asciation and other reputible sorces.” — Sienna “You must be diligent about keeping up your cleaning regimen if you choose to get piercings. Piercings can be painful, my tongue was particularly painful after I got it done, and the swelling was awful So be prepared if you do it. I do think that one should respect their parent’s wishes. Or at least let them know, don’t do things behind their back Infection is real they aren’t trying to lie to you to stop you just because they don’t like it. Chipped teeth and messed up roots are all possible. So please do your research and be careful before you get any piercing done.” — Bree “I just wanted to say..that your whole thing on piercings and tattoos is total and complete ***..you ppl are so closeminded..its not even funny.” — Amanda [Editor's response: Do you think you are closeminded because you strongly complain about viewpoints that disagreee with your own?] “It is extremely acceptable for a female to have one hole in each ear. We get in a debate about body piercings when we see multiple holes on through the brow, nose, lip, or tongue (or other places).” — Dana “this article is ridiculous. yes, there are risks that come with body piercing, but provided that you go to a reputable, clean and lisenced piercer, AND follow your aftercare instructions, then most piercings heal with no problems. peer pressure is not the only reason that teens get piercings, some people have an inate desire to make their body their own. i myself have had 11 piercings.” — Liz “I got rid of my piercings and daggy clothes and have started looking like a real girl again. I wear dresses and makeup and now have guys around me all te time. I'm really injoying the feminine look. Its been great for my self-esteem .. and my social life!” — Bianca “I can't believe that a website would use such horrible argumentation regarding why teens should not get piercings. your 'facts' are used out of context. if you make sure that the shop is clean (ask to see their paperwork from the health dept.), and know how to take care of a fresh piercing, there is no more risk of getting an infection than there is from a papercut. I have nineteen piercings along with a professional career.” — Ashleigh “Thank you for your excellent artcle on piercings. It is one of the most sensible I have read on the subject for a long time.” — Jason “Yor artical is stoopid. Th e bible dosnt forbid peicrings.” — Buzz [Editor's response: You're right, but we didn't say the Bible forbds piercing. Please read our article Common errors readers make when complaining about our articles on tattoos and body-piercing.] “I don't think scaring teens with horror stories of peircings and tattoos is a good tactic. Really you must ask them to analyze their motivation for these things. You need to address root causes. It's like using 'you might get pregnant' to dissaude teens from sex when really there are underlying moral reasons why it's wrong to have pre-marital sex.” — Bethany “hi, I am an 18 year old college freshman. I know that
piercings are looked at by many adults as 'bad,' but I think this
is unfair. I personally would not get my eyebrow pierced, but what
if a boy gets his ear pierced? I do not understand how on earth
that can be wrong because most females that I know have pierced
ears. I just wanted to know how this statement about piercings can
be biblically right when sooo many females have piercings. Are all
females then sining by having pierced ears? I am not trying to be
rude, I have just always wanted to ask that question.”
— Stephie “I have had my nose pierced for three years, and my lip
pierced for four. Yes, there are risks of infections... however you
just have to be smart when choosing your piercer. I chose to go to
a certified DOCTOR to get my lip and nose pierced ... I am sure
that I am not going to hell for having a lip ring.” —
Rebecca “Wat about ear peircing, mine are peirced!!!!!!!!!!! Im scared!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ” — Sarah “i am 15 yrs old and i attend a prestigious catholic
all-girls school. i have 2 holes in each yr and most girls in my yr
level have at least one hole in each year, some girls have belly
button piercings ... we are not allowed nose piercings at school
but it is not seen as a sin to have piercings! and to say that it
makes you less of a catholic if you have one is just wrong.”
— Maddalena “ive never herd of peicings or tatts cuasing cancer and i
dont belief it anyways.” — Lumin “i agree with this article because piercing can be dangerous and harmful. im really into it and planning to get quite a few and i dont know how people managed to see you stating that 'piercing is sinning' or that 'skatters go to hell'. there were safety reasons in the old testament and i think its up to every individual to work it out with God where to stop.” — Sarah “I am a Christian, and i am 18, i have multiple piercings and am planning to be covered in tattoos by the time i'm 25 ... it doesn't stop me from going to church and i have a better relationship with God ... And really when you think about it, Jesus was a rebel in his day... maybe the Second Coming is Marilyn Manson, he's a bit of a rebel too.” — anniib “jour artical is rediculos. their are knnow dangars
dangers in peicings. u r given wrogn infromation. ” —
jermis “I had to laugh after reading the comments from body-piercing supporters. Most can't put a sentence together without spelling everything wrong. Do all those holes in their body let their intelligence spill out too?” — Patrick “Wow.that article was rather disturbing...im 19, im a born again Christian living every single minute of every single day purely for Christ.i have my top of my ear, nose, lip and back of my neck pierced. i never swear, never smoke, never had 1 drop of alcohol & im not gonna have sex til marriage & yet in your articles you've associated these things with piercings. most of the time the abuse comes from Christians that instantly judge me because of the way i dress.if they had spent time reading the bible maybe they would realise that God looks into our hearts & doesnt judge us according to appearances.” — Matt “'Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s
mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing
to God – which is your spiritual worship. Do not conform any
longer to the patterns of this world, but be transformed by the
renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve
what God’s will is – His good, pleasing and perfect
will.' Romans 12: 1 – 2 “I'm a Christain teen. I love God and Christ and I have
been a Christian for several years now. I'm 17 years old and I just
read your article about body piercing. I honestly don't see the
problem with them unless it IS hurting you or if you're trying to
make yourself appear sexy. I hav been stereotyped by people for
over half of my life because I like tattoos and piercings and
(oooh, so horrible!>) I like black and pants from Hot Topic,
etc. Tattoos, especially, can be a great way to glorify God using
your body as a form of expression for Him. Aren't Christian people
supposed to be NON- Judgemental? Isn't judgement God's job?”
— Madison “Now as far as your teeth getting chipped from piercings, yes this will happen, but there are also other alternatives as far as jewelry goes. You can always get an acrylic tongue ring, which would reduce your risk of chipping. Same goes for lip rings, but of course not everyone's body will accept acrylic, but there are other alternatives. ” — Brent Related topics:
