Six myths about Noah's Ark. |
|
6 myths about Noah's ArkHere are six common beliefs about Noah's Ark. Each of them is false. 1. Noah's Ark was a small boat False! Noah's Ark was huge. If it stood on its end it would have been as high as the Great Pyramid of Egypt. It was three stories high, and its deck area was equivalent to about 36 lawn tennis courts. See the article How big was Noah's Ark? 2. Photos of a boat-shaped rock in Turkey show Noah's Ark
False! A famous boat-shaped rock formation in Turkey has been claimed to be Noah's Ark. The late adventurer Ron Wyatt was certain this was the Ark. But it's not. The dimensions are wrong and even creationist geologists who have examined it have said without doubt it is not the Ark. See the article Is this Noah's Ark? 3. It took 120 years to build Noah's Ark False! Many Christians quote Genesis 6:3 to say it took 120 years: “And the Lord said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be a hundred and twenty years.” But even though many, perhaps most, Christians think it took Noah 120 years to build the Ark, that is not what the verse says. See the article How long did it take to build Noah's Ark? 4. The “gopher wood” used to build Noah's Ark has been identified False! Genesis 6:14 tells us that God's instructions to Noah were to build the Ark of “gopher wood.” Gopher wood is mentioned only once in the Bible, and its translation is not certain. People who say it was definitely pine, or cypress, or cedar, are mistaken, although it could have been any of these. See the article What was the gopher wood used to build Noah's Ark? 5. Dinosaurs couldn't fit on Noah's Ark False! The mistake with this line of thinking is that some people think all dinosaurs were huge. But some dinosaurs were only the size of chickens, and there is no reason Noah couldn't have taken young, and consequently smaller, representatives of the larger types of dinosaurs. See the article How did dinosaurs fit on Noah's Ark? 6. All the animals couldn't fit on Noah's Ark False! People who say this usually have no idea how big the Ark was, and even less idea of how many animals had to go on it. Only certain groups went on the Ark (there were no sea creatures on it, for example), and when you get the calculations right you find there was ample room. See the article How did all the animals fit on Noah's Ark?
