OK to be gay and disgusting, but not Christian and polite? |

OpinionFormer Miss California USA fights for her Christian rightsBeauty queen sues pageant for libel, slander and religious discriminationApril 22, 2009 | Updated September 1, 2009 Carrie Prejean, 21, was runner-up in the 2009 Miss USA contest. But a huge section of the public rallied behind this beautiful Christian young lady after gay pageant judge and celebrity blogger Perez Hilton called her a dumb bitch with half a brain because she said marriage should be only between a man and a woman. Then she was fired in June by pageant officials. Frustrated, and feeling that she has been unfairly treated after simply giving an honest answer to a loaded question, the former beauty queen has now taken legal action against pageant officials for libel, slander and religious discrimination. Carrie Prejean, Miss California, looked like a winner in the April 2009 contest. She is beautiful and intelligent. She does volunteer work for an organization that helps people with disabilities, and is also a volunteer for the Special Olympics. Despite the fact that a very unChristian “sex tape” of Carrie Prejean as a 17-year-old later emerged, which she admitted was “the biggest mistake of my life”, at the time of the pageant most people saw her as a wonderful potential ambassador for the United States. But Perez Hilton was a judge, and he got to ask her a question. When he asked her whether she thought every American State should legalize same-sex marriage, she didn't give the answer he wanted. She said of marriage, “I think that it should be between a man and a woman.” (See video clip above.) Bravo, Carrie. As a Christian attending a Christian College you said what you should have said. You said what you believed. You were true to your beliefs and to your faith. But immediately following the pageant, Perez Hilton, whose blog Perezhilton.com was formerly called PageSixSixSix.com, starting ripping into Carrie Prejean in a most vile way. He called her a “dumb bitch”, who had half a brain, and on his trashy website he used a picture of her on which he disgustingly drew a penis in her mouth. He said she should have given a politically correct answer instead of giving her honest opinion. Under normal circumstances you would think this bullying would cause an uproar in the media. But instead of being panned for being an immature, intolerant bigot, Hilton pretty much got celebrity treatment by large sections of the immature, intolerant, liberal media. Carrie Prejean has since revealed that her state sponsors told her after the event that she should apologize to the homosexual community, and be quiet about her Christian faith. She rightly refused. Officials said they terminated her contract because she had violated it. Her legal action denies that allegation, and intends to demonstrate that both the chronology and factual evidence show she upheld all her contractual obligations, but was fired and publicly attacked because of her religious beliefs. In a poll by OneNewsNow in which more than 31,000 people voted, only 90 people thought Miss California should have compromised her belief and given a politically correct answer. Conservative comedian Steven Crowder put a clip on YouTube (see below) aimed at Perez Hilton. He said, “The fact that people can't stand you has nothing to do with the fact that you're gay. Straight people dislike you for the same reason that most gay people dislike you — you're a bully.” Let's put the glass slipper on the other foot. If Perez was at a Christian event and he was asked if marriage should be only between a man and a woman, would he have watered down his answer, or would he have stood up for gay marriage that he believes in? There's no way he would have altered his answer to something he didn't believe. And there's no reason Carrie Prejean should have done it either. She should be applauded for her honest answer in supporting biblical and traditional marriage. And if she has been discrimated against on religious grounds, and libeled and slandered, then although she lost the pageant she should be set for an even bigger win in her legal case.
