6 myths about evolution

Here are six common beliefs about evolution. Each of them is wrong.

1. Humans have evolved from apes

False! Evolutionists promote the idea that millions of years ago ape-like creatures evolved into humans. But when you look for the fossils of “ape-humans”, you run into all sorts of problems. See the article Which apes evolved into humans?

2. Human embryos retrace the stages of evolution

False! The idea that the human embryo retraces the stages of evolution has been exposed as false for many years. Yet the idea persists. The human embryo is human from the moment of conception, and shows no evidence of evolution. See the article Does the human embryo go through stages of evolution?

3. Christians cannot believe in evolution

False! Many evangelical Christians think it is impossible to be a Christian if you believe in evolution. Although it is certainly possible to be a Christian and an evolutionist, this position is biblically and scientifically unsound. Christian acceptance of evolution should be a half-way house at best. As your Christian growth takes place and you find that you can trust the Bible, your Christian beliefs will become very out of step with evolution. See the article Can Christians believe in evolution?

4. Belief in evolution causes no harm

False! Darwin's “survival of the fittest” ideas powerfully shaped the belief systems of mass murderers like Hitler, Trotsky, and Stalin. Also, the leading proponents of many evil and harmful philosophies and practices have based their beliefs squarely on evolution. See the articles Why evolution breeds monsters and What harm has come from belief in evolution?

Baby with tail

5. Human babies born with a tail are proof of evolution

False! The amazing case of a human baby in India born with a tail (see photo at right) got some people thinking the baby was an evolutionary throwback. He's not. See the article Human baby born with a tail is not evolution

6. Backaches and back pain are a result of evolution

False! If you have spent even a few days laid up in bed with an aching back, someone might have told you that humans get aching backs because we have not yet evolved far enough from our ape-like ancestors. But backaches and back pain are not a result of evolution. See the article Backaches and back pain are not a result of evolution
