6 myths about creation

Here are six common beliefs about creation. Each of them is wrong.

1. The days of creation were millions of years long

False! The Bible says God created the universe in six days. Some people think the “days” were long periods of time, or even millions of years. But the clear meaning of the creation days is that they were literal, ordinary, 24-hour days. See the article How long were the days of creation?

2. Behemoth in the Bible was a hippo or an elephant

False! In the Bible's book of Job, in chapter 40, God mentions an outstanding creature called behemoth. God calls it “the chief of the ways of God.” What was behemoth? Was it a mythical beast? Many people, including the authors of some Bible commentaries, say it was a hippopotamus or an elephant. Many creationists suggest it was an extinct animal, possibly a dinosaur. See the article Was behemoth a dinosaur?

Not Noah's Ark

3. Archaeologists have found Noah's Ark

False! Some Christians believe that a boat-shaped rock formation seen on a mountain in Turkey is what remains of Noah's Ark. It's not. See the article Is this a photo of Noah's Ark?

4. Noah's Ark was a small boat

False! If you wrongly imagine Noah's Ark looked like some of those little cartoon arks in children's story books, with a couple of elephants' trunks and giraffes' necks sticking out the top, think again. The Ark was huge. Its deck area was about the size of 36 lawn tennis courts. See the article How big was Noah's Ark?

5. Noah's Ark couldn't hold all the animals that had to go on it

False! People have promoted extraordinary ideas about Noah's Ark. One is that all the world's animals couldn't fit on the Ark because the Ark was too small and there were too many animals. But these people haven't read the Bible account carefully. Not every creature had to go on the Ark. Calculations have shown there was plenty of room for the animals, Noah and his family, and extra food. See the article How did all the animals fit on Noah's Ark?

6. Dinosaurs didn't exist

False! Despite the evidence of genuine dinosaur fossils, some Christians think dinosaurs didn't exist. They believe this because: 1. Evolutionists say dinosaurs lived millions of years ago. 2. These Christians believe the world was created only thousands of years ago. But dinosaurs definitely did exist. See the article Did dinosaurs exist?
